California Professional Firefighters Endorse Alex Padilla for Secretary of State

Sacramento- California Professional Firefighters (CPF) today announced its endorsement of Senator Alex Padilla for California Secretary of State.  CPF, the officially chartered state council of the International Association of Firefighters, represents more than 30,000 front line first responders throughout the state.

CPF joins a growing list of support for Padilla that includes Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), the California Nurses Association, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and dozens of state legislators, Congress members and local elected officials from throughout California.

“Throughout his career, Alex Padilla has demonstrated his commitment to public safety for all communities,” said Lou Paulson, President, California Professional Firefighters. “Alex Padilla was instrumental in expanding fire protection in Los Angeles while on the City Council and has been a leader in Sacramento focused on expanding and innovating our state’s emergency services.  On behalf of 30,000 front line firefighters, CPF is proud to endorse Alex Padilla for Secretary of State.”

Since that time, he has been traveling throughout the state meeting with voters, local elected officials, community leaders, and county election officers to get their perspectives on the Secretary of State’s office.

State Senator Alex Padilla was first elected to the State Senate in 2006 and represents more than 1.1 million residents in the 20th District, which includes most of the San Fernando Valley in the County of Los Angeles.   Winning a seat on the Los Angeles City Council in 1999, Alex was later elected by his peers as President, becoming the first Latino and youngest member ever to serve as President of the Council.  He graduated from MIT with a Mechanical Engineering degree and now serves on the MIT Board of Trustees.  Alex serves as Chair of the Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee and is currently President of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. He lives in the San Fernando Valley with his wife Angela and their two young sons.
