Largest Statewide Law Enforcement Association Endorses Alex Padilla for Secretary of State

Sacramento- Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), today announced its endorsement of State Senator Alex Padilla for California Secretary of State.
PORAC, formed sixty years ago, is the largest statewide organization in the nation representing public safety personnel with over 63,000 members in more than 900 local law enforcement associations throughout California.  PORAC’s announcement marks the first statewide law enforcement endorsement for any candidate for Secretary of State.

“Police officers and public safety personnel throughout California agree that Alex Padilla is the best choice to be our next Secretary of State,”
said Mike Durant, President, PORAC.  “For years, we’ve worked closely with Alex Padilla to keep our neighborhoods safe with more funding for public safety and giving officers the tools they need.  Alex knows how to get things done, passing tough laws to keep body armor away from felons and keep cell phones out of prisons. Alex Padilla has never wavered in his commitment to law enforcement and that's why we proudly stand with Alex in his campaign for Secretary of State.”

PORAC joins a growing list of support for Padilla that includes the California Nurses Association, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and dozens of state legislators, Congressmembers and local elected officials from throughout California.

"I want to thank PORAC, and its dedicated rank and file members, for their endorsement and for everything they do to keep California safe,”
said Senator Alex Padilla.  “Throughout my career, I have always put public safety first and fought for resources and laws to keep neighborhoods safe and support front line police officers.  As Secretary of State I will continue to be a strong voice and advocate for California’s public safety priorities.  It is an honor to have the support of PORAC, and its brave and commited members, in this campaign.”

Senator Alex Padilla officially launched his campaign for Secretary of State in April 2013. Since that time, he has been traveling throughout the state meeting with voters, local elected officials, community leaders, and county election officers to get their perspectives on the Secretary of State’s office.
