Gray Davis Endorses Alex Padilla for California Secretary of State

-Former Governor Gray Davis today endorsed Senator Alex Padilla for California Secretary of State.  He joins a growing list of support for Padilla that includes Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, John A. Pérez, Speaker of the California State Assembly and dozens of state legislators, Congress members and local elected officials from throughout California.

“Alex is strong and effective leader and he is my choice for Secretary of State.  I have known Alex for more than 15 years and I've watched Alex’s career from Los Angeles City council member to State Senator.  Alex has an extensive record of accomplishment and I am proud to endorse him. Alex has the knowledge and commitment to innovation to take California’s election systems to the next level,” said former Governor Gray Davis.

"I am honored to have the support of former Governor Gray Davis,” said State Senator Alex Padilla.  “As Secretary of State, I am committed to working to make it easier for more Californians to register and vote.  California leads the nation in technology, entertainment, environmental quality - we should lead in voter participation, too.  We must make voting easier, more accessible and convenient, and ensure that every vote is counted and accounted for.”

Senator Padilla served as the Southern California Field Director for the 1998 Democratic coordinated campaign, overseeing more than 30 field offices in Southern California.  Padilla and Davis met that year, because one focus of the coordinated campaign was electing then-Lt. Gov. Gray Davis as Governor.

Senator Alex Padilla officially launched his campaign for Secretary of State in April 2013. Since that time, he has been traveling throughout the state meeting with voters, local elected officials, community leaders, and county election officers to get their perspectives on the Secretary of State’s office.
