Legislative Leaders From Throughout California Endorse Alex Padilla for California Secretary of State

SACRAMENTO – Legislative leaders from throughout California today endorsed Senator Alex Padilla for Secretary of State. They join a growing list of support for Padilla that includes Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom and John A. Pérez, Speaker of the California State Assembly.   

Today’s endorsements comprise twenty-five legislators, who represent parts of the Bay Area, Central Valley, San Diego, Inland Empire and Los Angeles.

"I'm proud to have the support of so many of my colleagues in this campaign,” said State Senator Alex Padilla.  “These leaders are standing with me because they agree that we must do more to expand voter participation and make it easier to start a new business. I look forward to their active support as I campaign in every one of California's 58 counties."

Senator Alex Padilla officially launched his campaign for Secretary of State on April 11th of this year. State Senator Alex Padilla represents more than 1.1 million residents in the 20th District, which includes most of the San Fernando Valley in the city of Los Angeles.  Alex was first elected to the State Senate in 2006 after serving seven years on the Los Angeles City Council, including four years as Council President.  He graduated from MIT with a Mechanical Engineering degree and now serves on the MIT Board of Trustees.  Alex serves as Chair of the Senate Energy Committee and is currently President of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. He lives in Sherman Oaks with his wife Angela and their two young sons.
