Senator Barbara Boxer Endorses Alex Padilla for Secretary of State
Six Statewide Elected Officials Now Support Padilla

LOS ANGELES – Today, US Senator Barbara Boxer announced her endorsement of Alex Padilla for Secretary of State.

Senator Boxer said: "I've known Alex Padilla for more than a decade.  Alex knows how to get things done and I know he'll put that same energy and drive to work engaging new voters.  Alex Padilla is part of a new generation of California leaders and I'm proud to endorse him for Secretary of State."

Boxer’s endorsement continues the sweep of statewide Democratic support behind Padilla.  In the last few weeks Padilla has announced endorsements from US Senator Dianne Feinstein, Attorney General Kamala Harris and State Treasurer Bill Lockyer. Earlier, Padilla was endorsed by Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom and Supt. of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson.  Padilla is the only candidate running for an open statewide office who has the support of California’s two US Senators and the support of the top women elected officials in the state:  Boxer, Feinstein and Harris.

Alex Padilla commented:  “I am humbled to have the support of Senator Barbara Boxer, a true champion for California’s working families.  As Secretary of State, I will work tirelessly to register more voters, expand voting options and increase online access to elections information.  I will also fight to create jobs by making it easier and faster to start a business and modernizing the Secretary of State’s office to bring more services online.”

In addition to the broad coalition of Democrats supporting Padilla, Alex Padilla has been endorsed by respected statewide organizations including the California League of Conservation Voters, California Nurses Association, California Professional Firefighters and Equality California.
